Friday, Sept. 15, 2017 - JAMES HORNSTEIN, M.D. 
Family Practice Physician, Ventura

Hornstein is also the ethics chair at the Ventura County Medical Center, and chair of the Bioethics Committee at Community Memorial Hospital, both in Ventura. He received his medical degree from UCLA and a certificate in Advanced Studies in Bioethics from Loyola Marymount University.

Hornstein has been a lecturer at USC, Western University School of Medicine, and UCLA, where he has taught students courses on ethics in society and medical ethics. Hornstein has been the organizer, moderator, and a frequent speaker at the Community Memorial Health System Speaker Series for the last 10 years.

Friday, Dec. 1, 2017- JOHN LU, Ph.D. 
Assistant Professor of Economics, CSUCI

Lu was a health economist in the biopharmaceutical industry for two decades, including nearly 17 years at Amgen, where he was a director of global health economics and policy. 

Currently a faculty member at CSUCI’s Martin V. Smith School of Business & Economics, he coauthored Pharmaceutical Economics and Policy: Perspectives, Problems, and Promises, third edition (Oxford University Press) with Professor Stuart Schweitzer (UCLA). His research interests focus primarily on healthcare and pharmaceutical economics and policy.
