Martin V. Smith Scholars

The Martin V. Smith Scholars is a scholarship program for incoming students who are interested in studying business or economics at CSU Channel Islands.* MVS Scholars receive merit-based scholarships which can be used for any educational expenses including tuition and fees. MVS Scholars receive scholarships of up to $7,000 per academic year, and the scholarship is renewable. Applicants must reside or attend high school/community college in Ventura County. Previous cohorts will retain their original scholarship award amount.

In turn, MVS Scholars are expected to maintain high academic standards and to participate in several MVS Scholars activities each school year.

Scholarship Application Criteria:

  1. Open to new, incoming students who live/attend school in Ventura County and plan to study Business or Economics at CSU Channel Islands.
  2. Students must have a 3.75 GPA.

Admitted students whom are selected as MVS Scholars must:

  1. Major in business or economics.*
  2. Maintain a 3.5 GPA annually, both overall and within their major.
  3. Participate in MVS Scholars activities with Business & Economics faculty. MVS faculty members will plan a series of activities each academic year for Scholars, such as seminars or field trips.

To be eligible for a CI University Scholarship you must:

  • Must be enrolled in a minimum of 12+ units each semester
  • Must file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), OR, Dream Act Application.
  • Be a California resident or AB540 student
