The Accounting Option offered by the Martin V. Smith School of Business and Economics provides students with essential knowledge and skills in accounting, reporting, taxation, and auditing -preparing them for careers in accounting and for professional certification exams such as the CPA and CMA.
In the second year, students take ACCT 210: Financial Accounting and ACCT 220: Managerial Accounting. The third year includes advanced courses, such as ACCT 300: Applied Managerial Accounting, ACCT 310: Intermediate Accounting, ACCT 320: Accounting Information Systems & Data Analytics, and ACCT 330: Federal Taxation. In the fourth year, students complete ACCT 420: Auditing and Analytics. Upon completing the program and an additional 3-unit accounting course, students will meet the minimum accounting education requirements to sit for both the California CPA and CMA exams.
Additionally, Accounting students may benefit from participating in the Accounting Club, a student-run organization guided by a faculty advisor. The club provides valuable networking opportunities with industry professionals and organizes field trips to regional accounting firms and corporations, helping students prepare for successful careers in accounting.
